New Web-Based Medical Database Provides 24 x 7 Emergency Assistance Print

SYDNEY – Tuesday 31 August, 2010 – Australian company, Mediband is today announcing the launch of its secure medical website database, Mediband Plus, which is designed to alleviate the risk of misdiagnosis or the administering of incorrect medication or other treatments – which can in many cases lead to death or disability.

Mediband Plus is a web based medical database which enables subscribers to store pertinent medical and personal information for easy access when and if needed.

Mediband Plus offers a number of fields which subscribers can use to enter their personal details, medical history, details of any allergies, current medications, descriptions of any unique identifying marks such as birth marks and scars, blood group information, surgical and implant history, emergency contact and next of kin details, as well as any organ or other types of donor details.

Medical practitioners and emergency workers can use Mediband Plus to quickly and easily access a thorough detailed description of the patient’s medical situation – at any time of the day or night - and thereby administer the appropriate and timely treatment, negating the risk of misdiagnosis or error.

Professor Chris Baggoley, Chief Executive of the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (ACSQHC) recently stated, “Errors creep in that can harm the patients. Medication errors are a major problem for hospitals worldwide. Australia and many other developed countries report that adverse medicines events are a leading cause of error, injury and death within their healthcare systems.”[1]

The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care is currently conducting a program designed to improve the safety of patients receiving medicines in hospitals, with the aim being to improve patient safety.

“Mediband Plus provides the opportunity for Australians to take their health into their own hands by simply creating a database of their medical details which can be accessed online any time… and could potentially save their life,” commented Michael Randall, Managing Director and Co-founder of Mediband

Mediband also offers a range of wristbands which have been designed specifically to enable people with allergies or medical conditions to ensure that pertinent information about their health is readily accessible. The bands can also be used to detail Mediband Plus membership details and log in information.

Additionally, Mediband offers a wallet card which can be used to document all medical details or known allergies, including Mediband Plus access details.

“With Mediband Plus, people with allergies, medical conditions and other medically important details can rest assured that their details can be readily accessed by medical practitioners, paramedics, emergency workers in a matter of seconds, which may one day help to save their life,” Mr Randall concluded.

Founded in 2007, by Michael and Landy Randall, Mediband® is an Australian owned company which specialises in creating ‘medical ID alert’ wristbands which can help save lives in a matter of seconds.

The Mediband range of high quality, customised silicone wristbands can be used to clearly and quickly communicate vital information about the wearer’s medical condition, allergies suffered, blood group or other.

The bands enable medical practitioners, paramedics, emergency workers and even colleagues, family and friends to quickly identify if a person has an existing medical condition, specific allergy or drug intolerance and in doing so, administer the correct treatment.

Mediband’s current wrist band range features branded bands, in different styles, which cater to over 20 different medical conditions, including a range of reversible ‘designer’ bands which can be worn without outwardly displaying medical information.
